Muskrat Listrophorid

I collected this mite in addition to hundreds of her friends off of a dead muskrat. This mite belongs in the family Listrophoridae, and is a fur mite. These mites actually cling onto a hair shaft. In contrast to the Glyciphagid photo in my gallery these mites grasp the hair shaft with modified legs and sclerotized bits of the anterior portion.
